Spinach is an important vegetable green. It is a great source of vitamins, minerals and dietary fiber.
As a terrace gardener, one tends to grow many types of spinach. Therefore a question arises as to how many types of spinach's out there.
Based on quick internet research, I have come up with 38 varieties globally. This list is not vetted scientifically, there may be scope for further rationalization, and may be there are more varieties to add to the list.
While most of the Spinach belong to the Spinacea Oleracia species, please note the "Other Types" mentioned at the end of the table. More such other types likely to emerge.
Please write in the comments to help improve the completeness and accuracy of the table below. Click the links for more info, especially the pictures you like to see. This article will be edited in future to refine the info as much possible with your help.
Now, the curiosity is how many of these are available in Bengaluru gardens.
Thanks to Noor Fathima, a convesration with her inspired this quick research and article.
